Frequently asked questions

Can I keep my current phone number?

Yes, you can keep your current phone number. You will need some information from your current carrier to transfer your number to Google Fi Wireless, including your number transfer PIN. For additional information on what you'll need from major US carriers for the transfer, visit our Help Center.

How do I transfer my phone number to Google Fi Wireless?

Sign up for Google Fi Wireless and indicate that you want to transfer a phone number. This lets us know that you plan to use your own number, but it will not start the transfer process. Do not cancel service on your previous carrier until your number has transferred to Google Fi Wireless or you may lose the phone number.

To start the transfer process, download the Google Fi Wireless app and sign in. The app will guide you through the process of transferring your phone number. Number transfers typically take 20 minutes to complete. When the transfer is complete, you will receive a notification on your phone. For more details, visit our Help Center.

How long will it take to get service?

Most devices can get service within an hour. Just sign up for Google Fi Wireless and download our app. The app will guide you through the simple and quick setup process.

The majority of newer phones connect to the Google Fi Wireless network with an eSIM and no physical SIM card is required. If you are on a phone that does not support eSIM, you’ll have the option to get a free SIM card shipped to you during sign up.

Can I bring a phone or do I have to buy a new one?

Most newer phones work on Google Fi Wireless. You can use our compatibility checker to confirm if your device is supported. Most phones can connect to the network instantly with an eSIM via the Google Fi Wireless app. The app will walk you through the process of downloading an eSIM. If you are on a phone that does not support eSIM, you'll have the option to get a free SIM card shipped to you during sign up in the Google Fi Wireless app.

If you are interested in buying a new device, Google Fi Wireless offers a portfolio of phones, watches, and tablets for purchase. Shop our deals and financing options here.

How do I switch to a new device?

Download the Google Fi Wireless app on your new device, sign in, and click "Transfer service." You will receive an email confirmation of a request to transfer service to your new device.

We recommend restarting your old device after the transfer is complete to ensure that no apps or services continue to use your phone number on that device.

Does Google Fi Wireless work outside the US?

All Google Fi Wireless plans support data, calls, and texts within the US, Canada, and Mexico.

If you're on Flexible or Unlimited Plus, Google Fi Wireless supports international calls, text, and data usage in the 200+ countries and territories where we have coverage. You can text at no extra charge, and if you're using cell coverage, calls cost 20¢ per minute. If you're calling over Wi-Fi, per-minute costs vary based on which country you're calling, and you're charged only for outbound calls. You’ll also get high-speed data at no extra charge. On Unlimited Plus, this means international data is included. On Flexible, you'll pay the same $10/GB you pay in the U.S. For a list of countries covered by Fi, please see our international rates.

You must have active Fi service in the US (not including territories) before you go abroad in order to access international coverage. You cannot activate Fi for the first time while abroad. If the majority of your usage occurs outside of the United States over a consecutive 90-day period, we will suspend your international data. Learn more at our Help Center.

Can I use Google Fi Wireless on my tablet and smartwatch?

You can use Google Fi Wireless on compatible tablets and smartwatches.

Tablets

Google Fi Wireless supports cellular connectivity on compatible tablets with data-only SIM cards. If you have the Flexible plan or Unlimited Plus plan, you can order a data-only SIM card from your account page under "Manage Plan." Data used on your data-only SIM counts towards your plan's monthly data limit. For details on tablet and data-only SIM setup, visit our Help Center.

Smartwatches

Google Fi Wireless supports calling, texting, and data on compatible smartwatches at no extra charge. If your watch is not compatible with Google Fi Wireless for cellular connectivity, check your manufacturer website for instructions on connecting your watch to your phone via Bluetooth. For more details on compatible smartwatches and setup, visit our Help Center.

Do you have a physical store?

Google Fi Wireless is primarily an online carrier. However, if you have questions or need help, you can call our customer support team at 1-844-TALK-2-Fi anytime or visit one of our Google Store locations.

Certain extras (such as international calls or data charges) will be billed at the end of the cycle. For more details on Google Fi billing cycles, visit our Help Center.
